Dear children, A very good morning and hope you all are safe.

It fills my heart with immense warmth to narrate a real story of deep human values depicting service, highlighting the adage “service to humanity is service to God”. As we are bombarded every minute on TV and Social media on how COVID-19 has deeply impacted human lives around us in INDIA & globally, there is wide spread fear and paranoia in the minds of even the youngest Indian. But even babies as small as few months old have fallen prey to this mutant virus & recovered! (Hurray!!!!) This touching story that I am going to narrate is a personal experience dating back to a few days when I happened to glance through message on my “Family Whats app group”.

My uncle (Joseph D’souza), resident of Mumbai woke up one morning to discover his building has been classified as “hotspot” and was cordoned off due to positive covid-19 patient being found. To add to his woes my uncle had recently undergone an angioplasty (heart surgery) and required medical supervision to ensure recovery. As luck would have been, he had medicines stocks lasting for only 2 days and with the building being sealed off, he was helpless and alone. Trying times like these fire up your neurons into trying all possible permutations and combinations to help provide medical aid to someone without which the results would turn tragic soon, very soon. My first port of call was Mrs Nerurkar. I knew she had been voluntarily delivering medicines for unfortunate souls in need and constrained due to inability to travel. It was late in the night when I contacted her, but she told me that she would reach out to volunteers in Mumbai. She immediately sent me a list of brave noble souls (rather angels) in Mumbai who place service before self and help ensure medicines reach the needy.

I approached the person on my list at Worli, Mr Vishal Mirpuri that evening and narrated the predicament and provided him the address for my uncle. Understanding the gravity he immediately asked me to message prescription details and assured me that the medicines would be delivered within next 24 hrs. Next noon I got a call from my uncle with a huge note of appreciation and gratitude for both Mr Vishal and me for ensuring medicines were delivered just in time. I am so grateful to this gentleman for his timely help that he offered even after telling him that the building was under quarantine. He didn’t hesitate to offer help. See children angels don’t always have wings, sometimes they just have big hearts.

We all are aware as we are watching news and hearing of doctors, nurses and policemen who are helping us in this pandemic but these people go unnoticed. So I want to thank all these people including Mrs Nerurkar who are doing this wonderful job. God bless you Mr Mirpuri. You will always be remembered as a hero behind the scenes So students of TAS, we will soon banish this virus from our world. As long as we have amidst us people who truly believe that the whole world is their family, this foe of ours will be defeated I look forward to seeing you all soon.

There is always a lot of emphasis given on the morning routine. However, as parents; we all know that very morning is a race against the clock. A good morning routine is a result of a very good night routine.

The morning hours of getting the children to school can be a Herculean task. But if your child does these 5 things before going to bed, morning can be like a beautiful orchestra with everyone working in tune.

1. Cleaning the desk space/ study table :

Developing the habit of disciple at a young age starts from small tasks like keeping things in place after use. One thing that the child must do before going to bed is cleaning his/ her desk. Looking at a clean and tidy desk space the next day will motivate the child to start his/her study and homework in time.

2. Packaging for the next day:

Packing the school bag for the next day after organizing the desk will help the child mentally prepare for the coming day and he/she may remember if some homework is left out. This will give you those few precious minutes of calm time at the breakfast table.

3. The diary habit:

Maintaining a Personal Dairy has many benefits. But it is the most beneficial for a child in learning to express himself or herself. Developing a habit of self-expression will increase the emotional intelligence of the child. And he/ she will go to sleep with

4. Family Time:

Quality time spent with family after a busy day can be simply bliss for the parents as well as for the child. Sharing what was taught in class and the things that happened over the day will sharpen the child’s memory. He/she will revise an entire lesson without even knowing it. Discussion from the parent’s side about next day’s meal plan and discussion about their own day builds a cohesive and nurturing home environment.

5. NIGHT ROUTINE:

Brushing the teeth, washing the face before bed, drinking water and preparing the bed for sleep will help prepare the child’s brain for rest. These last 20 minutes without phones and technology will ensure calm sleep. The child’s body will slowly get used to this routine and will understand when it’s time to sleep.
In today’s modern world NIGHT-TIME is the only FAMILY TIME. Discipline can be built by helping the child in doing these 5 tasks daily. Also as the child learns to stay away from technology for at least the last 20 minutes before bed, he/she will learn to value the family time. The child will also understand that his opinion is valued in the family. And all these realizations will ensure a good night’s sleep for the child and a happy early morning time for you.

Your child needs your support during the stressful season of the examinations. Lending a patient ear or supporting vocally, below are some tips for parents to help their children during examinations.

1. Know your child’s exam schedule:

No matter how busy you are, thoroughly read the exam schedule of your child. This way you will be able to keep a tab on the studies as well as work harder with the young ones during the difficult exams. Parenting during examscan be tough but one needs to take out the time for their young ones.

2. No arguments:

The little ones are already stressed and any kind of alteration can lower their confidence and fill them with anxiety. Approach them with logic and sometimes let them get away with their way.

3. Make sure they get a good nights’ sleep:

Sleep is very important and sometimes the stress during exams makes the children avoid sleeping. Take interest in their sleeping and other habits and make sure that they go to bed on time. Take care of their diet as well.

4. Be available:

Listen to them when they talk to you. Pay attention to their problems and issues. Sometimes they really can’t understand the algebra or the law of physics or the grammar. Be patient, they are trying their best.

5. Hug them and tell them you love them no matter what:

Exams, though important, merely test your child’s memory and analytical skills. There is a very creative person residing inside your child who cannot be judged by the exams. So hug the little one and tell them you love them irrespective of their marks.

School life is a home away from home. Along with the technical knowledge, an academic institute also stands for building one’s character, defining personalities and providing an opportunity for wholesome development of the children. According to research, co-curricular activities are monumental in imparting the above-said values onto the children. In fact, various studies state that the inclusion of these activities has brought a positive change in the academics of the students. The marks have risen up and the children gain a broader perspective of the world, in addition to learning a new skill or craft. Not only does co-curriculum enhance one’s persona but also broaden the experiences of the students. Co-curriculum includes everything starting from games, music, art and craft, competitions, and so much more.

The significance of Co-curriculum activities at School:

Co-curricular activities aid in the learning process. The intellectual skills are put to test and children gain the ability to think, question and analyze on their own. Science lab activities, different technical competition, as well as literary competitions, help children learn their subjects better and in a fun way.

2. Self Confidence booster:

The self-confidence of the little ones are given a power boost through the co-curricular activities. They learn the art of public speaking and learn the ability to handle their audience. Children also learn improvisation and how to handle the pressure along with the life skill that participating matters more than winning.

3. Involvement in cultural activities:

Children learn from co-curricular activities. They learn about the culture, history, literature and various other things through the activities held at the school. Ethnic and moral values are learned, they understand the importance of empathy, kindness, and harmony.

4. Learning a new skill:

In addition to all the above, the co-curricular activities teach the children a skill. They learn a craft be it proficiency in guitar, tabla, painting, craft, public speaking, poetry or just a good observer. The activities make sure every child takes something back home.

5. Mental and physical health:

Stress is an issue that most children deal with today. These co-curricular activities are the hero, we all were looking for. Not only do these activities reduce our stress level, but they also aid in the betterment of our physical health too.
