Our Legacy

Sahyadri Bahujan Vidya Prasarak Samaaj (SBVPS) was formed in the year 1966 in Sangamner, Maharashtra with the aim of addressing the urgent need for quality education among the rural population. With a vision to provide quality and modern education to rural students in order to bring them at par with urban and semi-urban students, SBVPS started its first school in 1966 with an emphasis on quality and free education.

Dr. Ambedkar’s ideas of equality and Mahatma Gandhi’s progressive outlook towards education are the two main guiding principles that the SBVPS is founded on.

Today SBVPS has established a number of schools, institutions and hospitals and it is the fourth largest educational trust in the rural region, serving the needs of 54000 students of 174 villages. SBVPS has a wide presence in the rural areas with institutes giving education to the diverse population in Marathi, English, Hindi & Urdu.

Sangam Gram Vikas Mandal's

Sangram Residential School for Hearing Impaired

Sangam Gram Vikas Mandal (Sangram Sangamner) is one of the prominent
organizations in Maharashtra working for the hearing impaired and mentally challenged children, irrespective of sex, race, religion, castes, creed, color. It was registered in 1986 in Sangamner in Ahmednagar district.
Under the guidance of founder president, Dr Sudhir Tambe along with other trustees, a special school for Hearing Impaired children was setup in 1988. Sangram Residential School for Hearing Impaired began with a strength of 35 students and now works with more than 80 students. The aim of the school is:
• To mainstream children with Hearing Impairment through the protection of their rights.
• To make children with different abilities a contributing part of the society and help them live with dignity.
The facilities like the Audiometer room, the computer lab, the physiotherapy hall etc. are all well-equipped and used extensively.

Dr. Devendra Ohara Residential School for Mentally Challenged

In the memory of the dynamic director, Dr. Devendra Ohara, a school was setup for
Mentally challenged children. More than 45 students are getting educated here.
The school has well-qualified special educators and co-curricular staff to ensure the
students get quality special education. It is a progressive and child-centered school
which aims to empower the students by making them aware of their potential and
thereby making them self-reliant. Special efforts are undertaken to sensitize the general
public to accept and respect people with different abilities.

Both the schools aim to provide medical, educational socio-psychological and
economical rehabilitation. The guiding principles for these schools has been to bring all Hearing Impaired and Mentally Challenged children with different abilities under the ‘Educable Spectrum’.
